The regatta committee are delighted that in spite of the horrendous weather conditions athletes and spectators experienced at last year’s regatta, there has been a good entry across all events. The regatta this weekend will welcome over 150 eights – which must be approaching the record for the Regatta. On Saturday 15 June crews will race over 2000 metres and spectators will see local crews and clubs including, Sir William Borlase’s Grammar School, Eton College, Claires Court, Shiplake College, RGS High Wycombe, Maidenhead, Marlow, Henley, Upper Thames, Staines and Leander battle it out over the 2000 metre course. The regatta will welcome foreign crews ASR Nereus (Holland), Brentwood College (USA), Tigre (Argentina), Union Nautique De Liege (Belgium) and a strong Irish contingent from Carlow, Dublin University, and Trinity College Dublin Rowing Club. Despite the date being moved to accommodate the World Cup Regatta (21 June- 23 June) Marlow Regatta has retained its prequalifying status for Henley Regatta, so the stage is set for some very exciting racing. The Elite Eight event will see top crews from across the country battle it out to win the Grand Challenge Cup, including Thames RC, Abingdon School, Molesey BC, Oxford Brookes University, and Newcastle University. On Sunday 16 June the course will be reduced to 1000m for the Masters events where competitors of more advanced years, many in the over 60’s class, of both sexes, will show that the competitive spirit never dies! The regatta committee have been keen to embrace the legacy of 2012, so for the first time, have added Adaptive rowing to the race schedule. This builds on the success of the Olympic Adaptive Rowing regatta last year and offers these competitors a fairly rare domestic opportunity to compete against each other, on a multi-lane course.Following the remedial work necessary after the Olympics and in light of preparations ahead of the World Cup regatta, some of the areas that would normally play host to the regatta are out of bounds. There is however, still plenty of room for spectators to come and cheer on the local clubs and schools. For more information see www.marlowregatta.com
http://www.themarlowregatta.com/feed/read.php?itemid=306

2013 Volunteer briefing

The volunteer briefing for the 2013 regatta will take place in the Dorney Lake finish tower on Wednesday 29th May. We will be receiving regular updates on progress, which will, of course, depend greatly on the weather.Racing InformationDue to the extensive remedial groundwork required following the Olympic Regatta, and the unhelpful winter weather, none of the scheduled rowing events at Dorney Lake can predict their exact operation plans, until we have seen just how well the various grassed areas have become established. There is no problem with the water, but there are possible problems housing a large number of competitors, boats and trailers and managing a safe embarkation and disembarkation system. This information will be updated as we get closer to the date of the Regatta.
http://www.themarlowregatta.com/feed/read.php?itemid=289

2013 Thames Valley Trial Head postponed

At a recent meeting of the Marlow Regatta committee it was regretfully decided that the 2013 Thames Valley Trial Head, scheduled in the calendar for 3rd February, would be postponed. This decision was reached following site inspections at Dorney Lake, and meetings with Dorney Lake staff, where reconstruction works following the 2012 Olympics are underway. The reconstruction work is expected to continue well into 2013 and currently none of the normally grass areas in the vicinity of the boat house, or in the final 500m+ of the course, are (or will be) available. The decision was not taken lightly and various options were looked into, but it was felt that we could not safely run the event, specifically the parking of competitors cars, trailers & boats, with the expected areas of the Dorney Lake site that would be available. The Regatta Committee hope to reschedule the 2013 Thames Valley Trial Head to a date in November and are currently investigating options with Dorney Lake and the British Rowing events coordinator to see if this is possible. An update on this will be published later in the year.
http://www.themarlowregatta.com/feed/read.php?itemid=286

Message from the Chairman of the Management Committee

The Chairman of the Management Committee's letter about decisions at the 2012 regatta is now available from the 2012 Regatta page. The main restriction that will affect all crews is that we are unable to use the normal boating rafts in front of the Eton College boat house. All trailers will be parked between the river and the warm up lake, and all crews will be boating into the warm up lake. This will require crews to wade into the lake, so we stongly advise that they bring appropriate footwear as the bankside is gravel.Full details are available in the competitor instructions which are available for download from here.
http://www.themarlowregatta.com/feed/read.php?itemid=212

Accepted entries now published

The list of accepted Saturday entries has now been published. He has held various positions within the committee during his years of unfaltering service. Most recently he has been the Regatta’s President. On Wednesday 28th March Bill Findlay retired from this position. Bill has undoubtedly been one of the most hands on members of the committee and has always been the first to get stuck in! Whilst in Marlow, his skill in laying the course, piling the start, and then constructing the various items within the Enclosure was unsurpassed. There are few individuals as committed to this event and the sport of rowing as Bill. The regatta has experienced extensive changes during his tenure on the committee and Bill has played a central role in establishing the Regatta in its new venue at Dorney Lake. Unquestionably Marlow Regatta is indebted to Bill for his commitment and support over the past sixty years. On 1st April 2012 a lunch, attended by approximately 70 of Bills’ Rowing and Regatta friends was held at Leander Club to celebrate his contribution to the sport. A portrait, painted by a fellow committee member Hugh Evans was presented in recognition of his service. The Presidency has now passed to Mr John Chapman. Marlow Regatta would like to take this opportunity to thank Mr Bill Findlay and his family for their support and also wish Mr Chapman all the best for his Presidency.
http://www.themarlowregatta.com/feed/read.php?itemid=202

Tricia Clarke

The Regatta Committee are sorry to report the recent passing of Tricia Clarke. Never has it been a more exciting time for British Sport, and particularly British Rowing. Some of our strongest medal hopes lie with the British rowing squad and Dorney Lake looks set to be the backdrop to an exciting and much anticipated games.Whilst London 2012 gives those at the pinnacle of their rowing careers the opportunity to test their metal against a global competition, it also offers all facets of the sport the opportunity to utilise the world’s finest competitive rowing facilities. LOCOG have kindly given Marlow Regatta at Dorney Lake dispensation, as one the UK’s leading domestic events, to run the event between June 16th and 17th 2012. The Marlow Regatta committee would like to take this opportunity to publically thank LOCOG and Dorney Lake for allowing access to the lake during the lock down period, allowing our competitors to race on the course so close to the prestigious games. All those involved in the event are extremely excited at the prospect of this event and are delighted to be able to invite athletes to get a glimpse of the site, and compete on the Olympic lake before the Hunter’s and Purchase’s of this world (hopefully) turn the lake gold for Team GB next August. There will, of course, be some modifications to the logistics of the event to allow for the vital preparation for the Games to continue, but Marlow Regatta at Dorney Lake will still offer the high level of competition that has come to be the hallmark of the event. An increased racing programme for Masters in addition to the traditional programme means that there is an even greater opportunity for the whole rowing community to have a piece of the action. The regatta committee would like to take this opportunity to invite the rowing community, athletes and spectators to savour the build up to the games and get a glimpse of what next August will bring to Dorney Lake. For more information please see www.themarlowregatta.com
http://www.themarlowregatta.com/feed/read.php?itemid=182

2012 Marlow Regatta

A meeting of the full Marlow Regatta committee was held at Leander Club on Wednesday 19th October where the following items were confirmed for the 2012 regatta. The regatta would take place on Saturday 16th (2000m) and Sunday 17th (1000m) June.Racing for Masters' crews (men's and women's) would be retained on the Sunday. The Masters' events would be extended to offer a fuller range of age categories.Sunday racing would return to the normal heats & finals format. With the Olympic Regatta taking place at Dorney Lake later in 2012 there will be some disruption to the facilities available to other regattas held on the course earlier in the year. These will be positioned with the catering van at the large tree, just by the tow path enroute from the car park to the finish. This should be plenty to keep the children occupied for a while, so why not bring the family along with a picnic (there's plenty of space) to enjoy a quiet day out (oh, and watch the exciting racing too). You will also be able to keep up with the race commentary by listening in on 87.7FM, thanks to Regatta Radio, who are helping us broadcast over the radio for the first time.
http://www.themarlowregatta.com/feed/read.php?itemid=150

One week to go till #marlowregatta entries close

A quick reminder that entries for the 2011 Marlow Regatta close in one weeks time on Wednesday 8th June at 20:00BST. Why only two categories?
Even with adding just two age categories for both men and women we are adding a further 28 events to our Sunday schedule.

	Will there be handicap races?
No, races will be in either the B or D categories only, with no handicaps.

Several members of the regatta committee have experienced racing in handicap races which, although deemed "fair", do not offer the side by side racing that makes rowing the exciting sport we wish to take part in. Following several recent trips to take part in the FISA Masters Regatta, and with the agreement of the British Rowing Competitions Committee, it has been agreed that Marlow Regatta can run a trial to offer Masters events in a similar format to the FISA Master's Regatta. We hope that this will lead to some exciting and close Masters races with crews of similarly matched ages.

How does the FISA Master's Regatta work?
The FISA Master's Regatta offers races for all age categories. It takes place over 3 days at a different location each year. Each race counts as a final, with medals being awarded to the race winner(s). Races are drawn in each category based on average crew age, with the 6 youngest crews drawn in race 1, then next 6 in race 2 etc. This way, even if older competitors enter a younger class they will likely be racing crews of a similar or closer age. (It is very common for crews to race in both their age category and the previous one, so C crews racing in B, Ds in C and so on.)

So even if you are a Master's C or E crew we hope you will enter and that we can match you up with crews of a similar average age in the B or D events.

	Masters at Marlow

Each Masters race will be a straight final of 6 crews with medals awarded to the winners. Where required an event may have one or more races to accommodate all competitors, with the winners of each race receiving medals. Crews will be drawn into races based on their average age. There will be no heats and competitors my double up within the restrictions of the order of racing. Substitutions will only be allowed where they do not reduce the average age of the crew.

Lane 11 form available for download

‘Lane Eleven’ is our name for the tented shopping village at Marlow Regatta. The name derives from the fact that the rowing course has a total of ten lanes (up to 8 for racing plus one for safety each side). Thus ‘Lane Eleven’ is a lane of shops on land!
For suppliers of clothing, footwear and equipment to the rowing community, a pitch in ‘Lane Eleven’ our tented shopping village is a must. They will have a market of over 2000 oarsmen on their doorstep for the day. Many other businesses should also consider taking a pitch: Besides the athletes, there will be several thousand spectators present. Ideal for outdoor clothing, equipment suppliers, and consumer service companies of all types.
http://www.themarlowregatta.com/feed/read.php?itemid=115

Maureen McLean Photography

The 2011 Thames Valley Trial Head took place in bright, still but slightly chilly (sub 5degC) conditions this Sunday. The capacity entry were treated to some excellent racing conditions at Dorney Lake as they looked to set their fastest times on the 1,900m timed course. Thanks to the competitors and their coaches cooperation we managed to start 2 of the 3 divisions ahead of schedule and all was completed and the site vacated by 15:30.

The Mikrotime results service produced printed results within minutes of each division completing and the full set of recorded times can now be found via the TVTH 2011 Results page. We hope we haven't made any mistakes in the timing, but should you happen to spot any please let us know. Please note that we have not yet published the Masters handicapped times, but plan to do so as soon as we can.

Congratulations to all the competitors who took part, especially the winners, on the high quality of racing on show. We look foward to seeing you all again next year.
http://www.themarlowregatta.com/feed/read.php?itemid=100

Trailer Access for TVTH
