Weather forecast forces cancellation

It is with regret that it has been decided to cancel this year's Trial Head.

We reviewed three current weather forecasts, and all are predicting average wind speeds of 25 to 30mph, with gusts of 40 to 50 mph; conditions not dissimilar from those in place today.

Thinking of our duty of care towards both competitors and officials, we have concerns regarding:-

  1. Wind blowing weaker crews into banks and corners of the Lake, from where, experience indicates, it is very difficult for some to extricate themselves.
  2. Loading, unloading boats to and from trailers, and carrying boats on land in such strong winds is hazardous, and boats may even be blown over when tied onto trestles.
  3. Well loaded trailers, travelling from far or near, are very prone to cross winds. We don’t wish to be the cause of a serious accident.
  4. Officials will be on continuous duty, and whilst we had arranged for mobile refreshments, this would be asking a lot.

We hope that everyone will understand our reasoning, and are very sorry to have to cancel, but the forecast, which is usually very reliable for the next four days, at least makes it possible for us to give you early notice, so that you may adjust your plans.
