We deeply regret having to record the passing of Colin Jackson, a member of the Committee of Marlow Regatta since 1988.

At the recent Annual General AGM John Chapman, President gave a short eulogy:-

"Colin was a member of the Committee of Marlow Regatta for many years and was known to all as a man of many parts -but to each of us something different. Colin was fun, so younger folk coached by him would tell, gregarious, a member of Marlow Rowing Club for many years and coached there and nationally. He always had an opinion and was prepared to stand his corner, but a lovely man who will be sorely missed, not only the Marlow locals but many in the wider rowing world. Colin was one of many whose support for the regatta was unstinting. He was in his element when dealing with like-minded people - past or present competitors, coaches and officials. He will leave a gap which is hard to fill.

Our hearts go out to his family, at this time.”

Unfortunately, due to the forecast of strong wind and direction, the 2015 was cancelled 3 days before the event. The forecast was correct; the course was un-rowable on the day. The 2016 Thames Valley Trial Head is scheduled for Sunday 31st January 2016.

Thames Valley Trial Head 1st Feb 2015

Organised by Marlow Regatta Ltd

It is with regret that the organising committee has decided to cancel the event on Sunday 1st February. We have taken advice from Eton College Services at Dorney Lake, and based our decision on this, with the forecast of very strong winds and low temperatures, which will give rise to difficult water conditions and a severe wind-chill factor. We are making this decision early, to minimise your inconvenience.

Of course, it is possible that the forecast is wrong, and conditions could be suitable, but we feel that we can’t take that chance, and then have to cancel on the day.

It is anticipated that a partial, but substantial refund of entry fees will be made in due course, due to costs which have already been incurred.

The Committee greatly regrets having to make this decision, but hope that you will understand that it is made with the safety of all competitors as the prime concern.

The weather forecast for the next few days is not very good. We will be monitoring this, and hope to make a further announcement by Friday morning.
