The Management Committee of Marlow Regatta at Dorney Lake are making plans now in anticipation of holding a Regatta on Saturday June 19th 2021. We aim to run the Regatta in as similar a manner as in 2019, but there will almost certainly be some changes to meet Covid-19 safe standards and best practice. The purpose of this message is to let everyone know that we plan to provide the opportunity for racing on 19th June, and will seek everyone’s help in making this as safe, and enjoyable, as possible.
Given the current position with Covid-19 and following the latest Government advice and the advancing situation, the Board and Management Committee have reluctantly taken the difficult decision to cancel this year’s Regatta.
This is a huge disappointment for all involved, athletes, coaches, supporters and organisers alike and we appreciate your understanding in this time of fast-changing circumstances.
The safety of all those people involved with the Regatta both competitors and volunteers are paramount and so hence our decision.
Please stay safe and we look forward to seeing you in June 2021.
Ivor Lloyd
Chairman
Well, with about 100 days to go, the Directors and Management Committee have just held their second meeting of the year. As you might guess, quite a lot of the time we were talking about the ever changing situation relating to the covid-19 virus. The purpose of this update is just to let you know that the matter is under serious consideration and various scenarios are being explored.
Since the situation is changing almost daily, no definite course of action can be implemented at present except to say that it is our intention to run a Regatta as usual, and currently all the normal preparations are in hand.
It may be that any cancellation decision will be taken out of our hands either by the Government, or by site restrictions imposed by Eton College. Other factors such as illness of key officials or a large proportion of officials / volunteers / safety personnel, may be another deciding factor. So please keep healthy, for everybody’s sake! https://www.gov.uk/guidance/coronavirus-covid-19-information-for-the-public is a pretty comprehensive site.
The summary of the regatta winners and their prize-giving photographs are now available. They can be found at the following link
