It is with regret that it has been decided to cancel this year's Trial Head.

We reviewed three current weather forecasts, and all are predicting average wind speeds of 25 to 30mph, with gusts of 40 to 50 mph; conditions not dissimilar from those in place today.

Thinking of our duty of care towards both competitors and officials, we have concerns regarding:-

  1. Wind blowing weaker crews into banks and corners of the Lake, from where, experience indicates, it is very difficult for some to extricate themselves.
  2. Loading, unloading boats to and from trailers, and carrying boats on land in such strong winds is hazardous, and boats may even be blown over when tied onto trestles.
  3. Well loaded trailers, travelling from far or near, are very prone to cross winds. We don’t wish to be the cause of a serious accident.
  4. Officials will be on continuous duty, and whilst we had arranged for mobile refreshments, this would be asking a lot.

We hope that everyone will understand our reasoning, and are very sorry to have to cancel, but the forecast, which is usually very reliable for the next four days, at least makes it possible for us to give you early notice, so that you may adjust your plans.

Due to unprecedented demand we have had to close entries for the TVTH after just 48 hours. All 3 divisions are now full and, unless we receive any major withdrawals, are likely to stay that way.

Please keep fingers crossed for decent weather on the 31st January.

Following the issues encountered during the 2015 Marlow Regatta a full review has been conducted and, working alongside TRUC & TRRC, we are now working on an action plan for the 2016 regatta. If you would like to be involved in the planning and preparation please get in touch with our Hon. Secretary, Tony Evans.

If you are a wizard at conjuring up volunteers, a dabhand with a stopwatch, capable with a computer or punctual with planning we would love to hear from you. Volunteers are required throughout the year, not just on regatta day, to ensure everything is delivered, tried, tested and installed in time for the regatta. Thank you in advance from the Directors of Marlow Regatta Ltd.
